Anything is PossiblePosted by Shrigley Photography (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States) on 16 January 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio. One of the great things about living DC is the energy that is in the city right now. I walked out my door this morning to find my street filled with even more cars then usual. The train stations are filled, the tourists are back. People are greeting each other on the street and being a little more helpful then normal. People are excited, genuinely excited, about this upcoming administration. So am I. This was a wall I saw just after Obama was elected President. It was located just outside the Lincoln Memorial. It's basically a tribute, of sorts, depending on where one stood with this election. People voiced their congrats, their triumphs, their disappointment, their concerns and their relief about Obama's win. But mostly, they wrote about hope, change, and how anything (good) is now truly possible. Sure we look at all of the negative things that happen in life and think that it is possible. "I might get hit by a car crossing the street today." or "I might get laid off from work today." or "I might actually be sick with some terrible disease." But just the opposite can happen. Anything is possible the other way as well. You just might get that job promotion. You might not be sick after all and that car coming down the street might stop for you when you cross the street. You might discover a cure for cancer. You could, very well, have your most amazing and wildest dream come true. Or, you just might become President of the United States. Walk on the moon, become president, cure cancer. Don't stop yourself or let anyone else stop you. It can be done. The (good) possibilities are endless. Please feel free to leave constructive comments (positive, negative, indifferent). I think feedback is one of the most important tools anyone can use when engaged in the learning process. "Be well, do good work and keep in touch."

Nicely captured :) 16 Jan 2009 3:17pm Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesI like your photo and essay today, and am reminded of one very key thought from Jesus: "With God, nothing is impossible." 16 Jan 2009 4:25pm Anthony Thomason from Phoenix, United StatesWay to "see the shot." Good framing. 16 Jan 2009 6:39pm 613photo from DALLAS, United StatesYeah, DC always has energy. But sometimes it's not a very pleasant one (especially if you work in the game). I would think the mood of the city is extremely high right now and wish I could be there just to walk the sidewalks and ride the metro and just leech off those feelings in general. The photo captures exactly what you say it does. And it's worth noting that it's not only people in DC who are excited, of course. Inner city Dallas is very liberal and a lot of events are planned. Judging from his cabinet nominees and the way he's conducted himself since the election, I'm starting to believe even more that he is the right person for the job. I don't think there will be much inflammatory deviciveness coming from the White House in coming years. I really do think he will try to build consensus. Whether he does or not, trying to do that actually does count for something in Washington. Things will change. Hopefully a lot. Sorry for my political diatribe. Feel free to delete or edit at will, of course! 16 Jan 2009 9:05pm Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaWhat a wonderful image, I am also very excited, for you, for Amercians for everyone... 17 Jan 2009 1:53pm bronzebilly u.k. from Barry,Vale of Glamorgan, United KingdomHey Shrigster...read the note/feel the energy...a powerful post,pal...excellent work.. 17 Jan 2009 11:54pm B.Held from Santa Fe, United Statesthis is completely fantastic and beautiful ;-) 16 Sep 2009 5:29pm |
